This book is an excellent primer on preparation. It's great because it is easily accessible to the average person. Neill focuses on the most likely disasters, and how to take small steps to ensure one is ready for anything that happens. The author has extensive experience in disaster relief, and uses that experience to help anyone know what to expect when disaster strikes.
This is a great book to add to your library whether you're familiar with prepping and have a lot of experience, or are a complete beginner trying to learn how to get started.

Mr. Neill has made disaster preparedness so much easier, and has taken the guess work out of planning. His thorough checklists...coupled with a common sense approach, make what can seem like a daunting task very "doable." This book is great resource to be prepared for any disaster. The author provides practical and logical ways to protect yourself, family, friends, coworkers anyplace you are when a disaster occurs. Thank you for providing a concise tool for my family to process through so that we can take easy steps to keep us safe and helpful to those around us. I would recommend this book to anyone who desires to be prepared when emergencies/disasters occur. The reality is that we all are affected by disasters, either directly or indirectly, so it is imperative that we are prepared.
The author packs a lot of really practical and useful information into this book, and much of it appears to be based on his hands-on experiences in real disaster zones around the world. The early chapters in the book really help provide some valuable perspectives on how disasters can affect people and certainly made me think about my own vulnerability level. Despite being an easy read, there are a great many of ideas to act on and it could take someone quite a bit of time to put all the advice into action. I have a few disaster preparedness type books on my shelf and they all have their strengths and weaknesses, but I would say this book covers most of the ground quickly and efficiently. The book is laid out logically and presents many things not always covered in other books on the subject. I would definitely recommend this book to someone who needed an introduction in formulating their own disaster preparedness plan.
I have read allot of disaster preparedness books over the years and enjoy learning more about this topic myself. I always learn something new from every book I have read. This is rock solid book, especially when it comes to core preparedness skills! This book is not a book about survival techniques like rubbing sticks together. There are many other good books out there on that topic. This book is a comprehensive manual on disaster preparedness with the emphasis on being "comprehensive" about disasters and emergencies, because by their very nature, disasters and emergencies are very unpredictable and dynamic. No one book could possibly cover every conceivable scenario, but this one comes pretty darn close... Very much worth the read for beginners to intermediates! It is a very well written book, easy read, and has a good flow to it. I think you will enjoy it.
Honestly, I have a lot of disaster prep books, but what I love about this one is that it's practical. The purpose of the book isn't to help you prepare for the zombie apocalypse; it's to help you anticipate the most realistic, probable disasters you may face in your area and take action to be ready in advance of those most likely situations. I figured that I was already prepared for most any disaster, but there were lots of suggestions and ideas that were new to me. I loved that there was a chapter on your health and social well-being, as many disaster preparedness books overlook this! The ideas in this book are something that you can realistically implement without it costing an arm and a leg. If you are looking for a practical guide that will assist you in accessing YOUR most likely needs and simple ways to prepare with helpful checklists, I would highly recommend this book!
