I have decided it's time to lose weight and I was thinking on a recent Sunday that it sure would be nice if there was a place to get a whole bunch of meals where the calories were already calculated without having to get some huge diet book and adopting a whole philosophy just to lose some weight. Calories are calories and it really doesn't matter what your blood type or your birth order is, if you use more calories than you consume, you will lose weight (with very few exceptions). This book is that for me. It has 30 days of 300 calorie breakfasts, lunches and dinners! It is exactly what I was looking for! You can mix and match however you like. My only gripe is that a number of the entries include recipes that are in three other books, one for breakfast, one for lunch and one for dinners. This is especially true of the lunches where at least half of the ones in this book require the Lunch book to make. Fortunately, the other books are inexpensive. I bought the lunch one and it was only about $3. There are other chapters, but what I really wanted was the lists of meals that were calculated for me.

I follow Simply Svelte on Facebook and was excited to order this book. I was very disappointed. For $9.99 I expected more than lists. Asterisks were placed next to a number of meals. The asterisk indicated that the recipe for that particular meal could be found in another Simply Svelte book. I feel ripped off.
SO many diet books exist out there but this one isn't about starving yourself or the painful approach of calorie-counting your way to a thinner you. The calories are already counted and packed into neat little "mix-and-match" groups so that you can maximise your benefit from each snack and meal, without having to eat the same thing every day. Though I wouldn't mind having blueberry pancakes every day! You don't just learn to eat better from this; you FEEL better. A quality book by Simply Svelte (one best accompanied by her cookbooks).
I am not a big lover of meat-based dishes. Although not a vegetarian, I lean in that direction. I think that's why I like this book so much - it gives me meal ideas (all based on 300 calories) that I can mix and match. And because I happen to love most breakfast foods, I have a lot of breakfast-y type ideas to pull from. For example, I can easily imagine myself eating a breakfast burrito for breakfast and the frittata for dinner, and a smoothie for lunch. That's my kind of dieting. I seem to be reviewing a ton of dieting and cookbooks this month - but for me, this one's a keeper. Thanks for cooking up an idea that I can actually use!
